Hi, the file telsock.zip is available from
131.170.32.127 (mg.co.rmit.edu.au)

TELSOCK is a port of the example
provided with the 32 bit Visual C++ compiler called WSOCK

I have ported the program into Visual C++ and have attempted
to add in code to control a telephone switch through the
parallel port.  It is intended to use this program under
DOS/WINDOWS.

The program works fine under Windows NT, that is I can connect two
instances of the program and can send messages between them.

However it will not work when I compile and run it under DOS
using Visual C++ 1.0.

We have Novell running here and I am using the Novell tcpip (sockets).

Would someone please compile and run it using the Microsoft TCPIP and
sockets and see if it works.  Two things are required:
1.  specify the pc name like   mg.co.rmit.edu.au    (example)
the hosts file must have this pc name in it and the IP address
2.  the suggested socket number is 12

There are two files telsock.16 and telsock.32, these are the corresponding
make files for Visual C++

I've had two problems running the 3.96.4 QVT/Net with Trumpet Winsock
1.0A on a slip line.

1.  QVT/Net froze.   Had to kill it and then Trumpet had the "reentrancy"
errors.   Finally had to reboot the system to correct....

2.  Ran WinVN attempting to send mail using smtp.  It never delivered
it.  Then ran QVT/Net.  As soon as I tried to connect to a host, it UAE'd.
Had a session of WS_FTP running at the time that continued to work.
When ws_ftp finished, I then connected to a different host, and ws_ftp
then UAE'd.   Might have been a problem with name resolution??? in
the Trumpet Winsock???    Next attempt to run ws_ftp was ok but
couldn't get qvt/net or winvn to run again.  Had to exit windows and slip
connection and restart all to correct.

Hosts files are usually used by those who don't have a DNS or those who
need to list hosts that are not present in the DNS.

Fed up with the Trumpet Winsock message box every time you exit windows ?

Would you prefer not to see it, as you know that your applications are not
using winsock ?

Well now you have a solution, I have coded a quick, and dirty way to eliminate
those problems.

Enclosed is a uuencoded and zipped way to get round it. Please read the
readme.txt file before using, as I don't want you all coming round my house
and whining that it all went wrong !!

Subject: Need Slip server for SUNOS

Is there a SLIP server that I can compile and run under SUNOS or
Solaris? I currently connect to my university's terminal servers which
support slip, but they restrict IP connections to only machines on our
subnet (i.e. on campus), so I can't go off campus. As a result,
running applications like winmosaic and gopher is a little meaningless
because they only work for the local WWW servers.

I want to be able to use trumpet to connect to my modem servers, then
log into my Unix account, and start a slip server. That way I could
get off campus without a problem.

Also, is there a newsgroup that this posting would be more appropriate
for?
